Jon Wenger is a School Psychology Predoctoral Extern at Calhoun Psychology, where he provides individual therapy for children and adolescents through our community partnerships. His background in both psychology and education provides a valuable perspective on the ways learning, emotional well-being, behavior, and school experiences can intersect in the lives of children and adolescents.
Jon takes an individualized, evidence-based approach to working with children and families. He recognizes that each young person brings a unique combination of strengths, experiences, relationships, and challenges to therapy and works to understand concerns within the broader context of the child’s development, family, and school environment. His goal is to create a supportive and engaging therapeutic experience while helping children and families develop practical skills, strengthen relationships, and navigate emotional and behavioral challenges more effectively. He also values collaboration with parents, caregivers, educators, and other professionals when helpful in supporting meaningful change across settings.
Prior to his doctoral training, Jon worked as a high school math teacher and department chair and as an education policy researcher. He earned his B.A. in Psychology from Willamette University and his Master’s in Public Policy from the University of Chicago and is currently completing his PhD in School Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His clinical training has included experience in public, private, and tribal schools, specialty clinics, and private practice, where he has worked with children, adolescents, and families with a range of educational and mental health needs. His professional interests include early childhood development, parent support and training, and understanding how trauma and other life experiences can influence children’s development and well-being.
Outside of work, Jon enjoys spending time with his two children and family, woodworking, and increasingly slow cardio.
